24 Hours in Lake Tahoe
Sometimes there isn’t enough time to be somewhere for too long because you can’t get the time off work or you can’t find anyone to watch your cats. It happens to everybody once in a while and before you stress tf out I want to share with you that you can make anything fun and memorable even if it’s for a short period of time.
Tyler and I found ourselves in a pickle when we couldn’t get anyone to watch out furry little babies. We contemplated bailing on this trip, but we decided f**k that, we are going even if it’s just for 24 hours and making the best of it.
If you’re in the bay area and want to take a quick trip, just drive up to Lake Tahoe for the day. I will share with you the spots you need to take pictures at, stops along the road and places to eat while you’re there.
But First, Coffee
A road trip isn’t complete without a vanilla latte with almond milk am I right?
Next is getting your snack game in order, I brought some trail mix for myself and some not so healthy snacks for Tyler. He wanted sour candy and these Hawaiian chips he swears are amazing. I’m more of a hot fries type of girl but opted out for dieting purposes. FML. Anyways, get some good snacks and water for the road.
The whole drive to Lake Tahoe is not all pretty, it can be visually boring for a few hours then, it’s gorgeous.
Picture Spot #1
Pollock Pines
You can smell the crisp clean air here. There are multiple spots to pull over and take in the scenery. I highly recommend doing so. My tip is to wear a cute outfit because I didn’t, and I’m bummed about it. This is what I got. Oh well.
How to get there?
- 680 North
- Continue onto I-80 E
- Continue onto Lincoln Hwy toward US-50 East, Sacramento
If you keep driving towards Lake Tahoe, you’ll get to a winter wonderland. Man, this drive was so beautiful, I just couldn’t believe it. I’m hardly ever around snow so that’s why I’m probably so fascinated by it. Anyway, there are spots to pull over and take pictures but unfortunately, I didn’t do that because it was snowing and did I mention we only had 24 hours? So, we couldn’t stop every minute to take pictures lol. But here are some of the shots I captured while driving. Must admit Tyler and me were terrified driving through this. It was Tyler’s first time driving in the snow and he gets really bad anxiety so…yeah but we made it through.
Sierra at Tahoe
Man, there was a lot of snow here, and due to the fact that it was snowing all day, the tubing area was closed off because of the fresh snow. We hung out there a bit and threw snowballs at a random kid. Lol jk jk that’s Tyler’s little cousin. We were all there for his mom’s birthday trip.

Adventure Mountain
So beautiful here and lots of places to take cute Instagram pictures. I slid down one mountain screaming the whole way down because my little sled thingy kept hitting side to side, I swear I thought I was going to tip over. Luckily, I didn’t. The cool thing about this place is if you’re hungry, the food isn’t bad, pretty good actually. I had the chicken tenders with fries, Tyler got a pizza and it was all pretty tasty. Typically places like this have shitty over-priced food. It was a little overpriced but not shitty.

Ending your day at Heavenly Ski Resort
This is a pretty popular area, with lots of entertainment and a gorgeous view. I was bummed that it started snowing really hard while we were there because one, I hate the cold and wanted nothing but to be indoors, two, I couldn’t take cute pictures anywhere. Here are some attempts while it was snowing. It stopped for like a mili-second and I got to take a few more. Anyways, there is an ice rink, coffee, ice cream, gift shops, food, and more.
Speaking of food, while you’re there, you must eat at Base Camp Pizza! OMG, it was amazing. We ordered an appetizer called Garlic Chips, it’s a thin layer of fresh pizza dough covered in garlic butter, topped with our four cheese blend and served with ranch dressing. Optional Pesto Sauce $1, get the pesto!!! and for the main course, Tyler and I shared a medium Big Mountain pizza, loaded with Italian sausage, bacon, pepperoni, and Canadian bacon. Best I’ve ever had. They have a heated outdoor area with live music which was really cool and TVs playing sports. I don’t really care for it but it’s one of those things that are nice to glance at from time to time. The ambiance was just great there.
If you want to get cray, you can visit a few local casinos if you’re wild and like gambling. But ultimately you can do a lot in 24 hours and get a nice South Lake Tahoe experience. During the summertime, I’m sure there is a lot more to do but since I’ve never been during that time of the season I can’t tell you anything.
I found this little trip to be fun and relaxing. At the end of the day, we just headed back to our Airbnb and watched Big Daddy. Come morning, we had our coffee and breakfast, took it all in one last time and then hit the road.
Tyler and I talked the whole way and just had an amazing time. We always make the best of every situation no matter what and so can you. Find someone who you can just be spontaneous and do random shit together. Don’t stress and enjoy yourselves, you deserve it.
