So, turns out millennials have held the highest share of home buying activity in 2018 out of all other generations for the fifth year in a row, WOW! We millennials hold a strong desire to own and constantly push to get closer to homeownership. 

Cut-Backs

70% of millennials are willing to cut back on weekend activities for 12 months if it means they can own a home in the future.

 

Things they are cutting back on:

  • Shopping
  • Going to the movies
  • Eating out
  • Drinking
  • Splurging at the spa

 

Hot Gossip

Millennials love to talk, in fact, 68% of say they talk about home buying topics like affordability, home buying journey, and neighborhood opportunities with their friends and family. Talking about it has been helpful to determine what they want and where they stand.

71% of millennial women are willing to discuss home buying topics with friends.

71% of women and 64% of men are willing to cut back on eating out and drinking to once per week. It’s crazy how much that alone can save you even if you weren’t interested in buying a house. I suggest you try it and see how much you can save.

50% of millennial men are more likely to engage with, or post about home buying topics on social media.

Homeownership is appealing to us because we’ve seen the good and the bad and although some of the bad were really bad, the good definitely wins.

If you live in Silicon Valley and don’t see homeownership insight, maybe it’s not because you can’t, maybe it’s just that you can’t in that city. Look for smaller towns nearby, don’t get stuck settling especially if your dream is to own a home one day.
