co-living

Have you considered bunking with anyone lately due to unaffordable rent? Maybe even dating someone just to split it? Babe don’t worry that’s not why I’m with you.

Co-living has become a trend in real estate because it is fucking crazy expensive to afford a home nowadays, even my gynecologist agrees with me and she makes good money.

Trends. They come and go, and the hottest trend ATM is co-living. How long will it stay? That is TBD, hopefully not too long. Co-living buildings often lease a tiny room within a larger apartment and then share common spaces, like living rooms, and kitchens with strangers. So many people are doing this, sacrificing privacy just to be near their job or stay in a city they love.

Some developers are betting big time that this will continue to grow. They are currently building some of the largest new co-living properties in North America.

Apparently, Starcity, a co-living startup in San Francisco, purchased a development in San Jose to build a 750-unit co-living building, and other plans are active for co-living units throughout the area. Another developer called The Collective plans to build a more than 500-unit new co-living building in Brooklyn.

The experimenting of co-living began 10 years ago, and developers have a better understanding of what the people want. This has given them an idea what to build for the future specifically just for co-living. Betting that making it affordable to have an urban apartment will trigger even more demand.

A good example is paying $1,600-3,100 a month to get a co-living space in San Francisco when typically, you’ll get an average studio apartment for that price.

What do you think? Do you currently live in a co-living building? Do you think this is the way it has to go? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

As always thank you for reading, I appreciate you and your time.

xx
