Top towns for an affordable retirement

Housing affordability is not just a problem young millennials have. A lot of baby boomers are getting ready to retire and are searching for areas with the best amenities and ding ding ding AFFORDABILITY.

With 74 million members, baby boomers are the largest generation on record to retire and if they are like previous generations, that will involve moving. A lot like to head towards warmer climates, or a place that fits their active lifestyle, looking for social and recreational opportunities, nearby restaurants, and shopping.

Realtor.comĀ® evaluated the 500 largest metros to find where at least a quarter of the population is 60 years or older and where members of this age group generally relocated to between 2011 and 2015. Ranked by total cost to pay down a 15-year mortgage on a median-priced home to identify the most affordable retirement havens.

So here are the 5 most affordable retirement towns for 2018

  1. Sebring, Fla.

Median home list price: $180,100

  1. Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Median home list price: $188,600

  1. Ocala, Fla.

Median home list price: $202,000

  1. New Bern, NC

Median home list price: $209,800

  1. Homosassa Springs, Fla.

Median home list price: $221,500

Priciest towns to retire are:

  1. San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Median home list price: $729,600

  1. Santa Rosa, Calif.

Median home list price: $695,100

  1. Santa Fe, N.M.

Median home list price: $568,900
